I’m Mike Thomas, currently the Video Production Manager at WUPA-TV. With over 38 years of experience as a cinematographer and editor, I’ve spent my career telling compelling stories through visuals and sound.
After earning my degree from Kutztown University in 1987, I began my journey in broadcast news at stations like WLYH-TV and WGAL-TV in Pennsylvania. I later moved to Atlanta and joined WXIA-TV as a news photographer, where I covered daily stories under tight deadlines, honing my ability to work quickly and creatively under pressure.
In 2014, I transitioned into video production, working on local programming and commercial content. Highlights include producing weekly shows for the Atlanta Falcons—projects that deepened my expertise in sports cinematography. Whether in news or production, my passion lies in capturing authentic stories that resonate with audiences.
Recently, I edited a full-length documentary honored at several film festivals, along with a mini documentary—both of which aired nationally on PBS stations. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to receive numerous accolades, including 12 regional Emmy Awards and 6 Telly Awards.
My mission as a cinematographer and editor is simple: present every subject in the best possible light and create work that reflects excellence and pride—for both my team and our audience.
